Info on Pathway Lights

Consumers who wish to install pathway lights on the walkways of their homes have many choices from which to choose. Whether it is the finish, size, or material from which the pathway lighting is made, choices are indeed abundant when shopping in the United States for this type of exterior home lighting. However, while some consumers may initially focus on the look of the pathway lights, they may also want to consider the power source the pathway light uses to illuminate. Two power sources available with outdoor pathway lighting are solar and electric.

Solar pathway lights, as the name suggests, use the sun as the energy source to provide the illumination. These lights are designed to collect the sun’s energy during the day and emit it at dusk. However, in order for solar pathway lights to function optimally as designed, the solar panel component of the lighting fixture must be installed in the direct sun, where it receives abundant sunlight. Otherwise, these lights will not work well, if at all, with the current solar path light technology. Therefore, these lights do not tend to work in climates and locations that do not receive abundant sunlight.

By comparison, pathway lighting fixtures that use electricity in their design work in any location and climate, as long as they are connected to an electric power source. They do not function using solar power, and consequently, do not depend on the sun to operate. They can be used in both sunny and not sunny locations. Thus, pathway lights that use electricity tend to be more reliable.

However, pathway lights that use solar energy and are installed in sunny locations may also be reliable and a good option for consumers who plan to install the lights in areas that are sunny. The benefits of solar path light include that they tend to be eco-friendly, since they do not use electricity, and because they use no electricity in their design, they do not add to the household electric bill.
