Endangered Mountain Gorillas

There are many weird animals endangered in this world for one reason or another. The Mountain Gorilla is no exception to this. The Mountain Gorilla is a large long haired species that is in great danger of becoming extinct. These gorillas are located in many different parts in Africa and they evolved from the Eastern Gorilla. These freaky weird animals can live in both hot and cold areas thanks to their coats.

The diets of these animals consists mostly of fruits and vegetables. Shoots and stems of various plant species in the area are what these mammals feed on. Occasionally they will eat some bark as well.

This species is very social and they live together in groups. They are not very territorial and will defend each other rather than the land they live on. Typically a group is made up of one older male (a silverback) and three or four females. Sometimes there will be a few younger males in the group as well. There is usually just one silverback though and they are the leader of the group.

There are many factors making these animals endangered. Poaching is one of the main factors. While they are not typically hunted for their meat they are often caught in traps meant for other creatures. They are also sometimes hunted for their heads hands and feet that collectors are after. Their infants are captured and sold to zoos which usually causes the death of an adult as well. An adult will fight to the death to protect their infants. Another factor is loss of habitat. Humans continually slash and burn their forests to make room for themselves. Gorillas also have a risk of catching diseases from humans they encounter. Gorillas and humans are close enough in genetics that they can pass diseases from one to the other and gorillas do not have immunities to human diseases.

These animals are in danger and if something is not done to change the way they are currently being treated they will be gone before long.
